stuff wot I read

voleuse (in
moodfic) is Wash and Zoe backstory, just a little bit, with Wash so wide-eyed and stunned by Zoe, and she is finds him so adorable. I'd totally crawl in Wash's lap if he started explaining the differences between dinosaurs (I know all about them from my brother's phase of obsession ca 1985, of course, but I'd still be in Wash's lap.) It's sweet and PG-13.
In a side note, somebody else recc'd a Wash/Zoe piece that piqued my interest during the finalizing of the diss, and now LJ doesn't want to take me back to July 26th-ish. So if that was you, speak up, yeah?
Atlantis:
miera_c wrote a nicely paced love story. It's John/Elizabeth, and I liked it for Elizabeth overcoming that ubiquitous 'Am Leader, Can Have No Fun' and for John reacting really badly to falling for someone. The chemistry is sympatico, and the fall is gentle. Logically Irrelevant, R.
John/Rodney and the Pegasus Project tag (or, where the lemon was subtext and SG-1 is so onto them.) Lemon Drops, by
stillane, PG, crossover with SG-1.
stillane also did Cat On a Hot Tin Jumper, which is funny and in character. G rated, John/Rodney.
John/Teyla, where Teyla is fiesty and with the psychological complexity, and John is with the ambiguity.
ltlj's Sojourn, NC-17.
shusu's well-recc'd, creative, sweet and slightly creepy John/Rodney (first time and relationship.) Home Fires Burning, NC-17.
There was apparently wankery in the Atlantis fandom about, erm, something. In a response to
seperis's post (here) refuting said wankery,
sageness said something rather witty, I thought, so I quote: But what I totally fail to get in the (eternal) slash/femslash/het/gen struggle is any sense of actual persecution happening. I mean: one fan likes chocolate, I like butter pecan, someone else likes lemon sorbet, someone else prefers cheesecake. But is anyone actually trying to shove cheesecake into the lemon sorbet?
Or is there simply a helluva lot of cheesecake on the table, so it's hard to find the other flavors? Because if that's the case, then it's an organization issue. And that's easy to fix.
BUT. If it's that someone's bitching about there being too much cheesecake on the table, then hello, the solution is for the people who want it to put more of the other choices out there.
More with the crossovers: Shep/Mitchell in I Might and You Might by
minervacat, NC-17. I love how they got to the same place by such different choices.
Cooooofax wrote John and Cameron too! Isn't that loveable? Friendshippy, and actually kind of inept, but then, they didn't have the intel. This is Not Wartime series, apocafic, gen, PG-13. Mules in Horse's Harness, aka, the Junior Varsity Remix.
MacGyvver and SG-1, at the end of the world, the sweethearts. I Shall Have No Sorrow. Gen, PG, from
surrealphantast.
Stuff you already know ('cause I already recc'd it, but it bears repeating):
paian's Lost City fic All In. J/D, adult, wonderful.
synecdochic and
taselby's Scientific Method, J/D, really adult, possibly PWP.
taselby's Canon for a Minor Key. NC-17, Jack/Daniel.
Also from the J/D ficathon: Days Like This, in which Daniel saves Jack's arse. PG/PG-13, by
butterfly.
dustandroses's (I R evol and I didn't leave feedback) All in the Making. J/D, pre-slash, shockingly PG-13, heh.
Someone responded to a comment I made, which led me to reread the hilarious WWZD by
poohmusings. Gen, SG-1, rilly funny.'
Ummmmm.... I think that's it. Thank you for the celebratory woo-hoo's about finishing up the writing. Now for to make the presentation and prep for the defense! Wooooo hooooooo!!!!!!

Date: 2006-08-05 07:08 pm (UTC)Well, I'm glad to know you read it, at least. I've had a number who didn't leave feedback. But I can't blame you, really. It's a very long piece, and rather shmoopy for me. (Hell, it's PG-13 of all things!) I knew Moonshayde didn't want graphic sex, it's just not her style. That's why she doesn't read my fic. So I did one for her, and I hope she likes it, but it didn't turn out anything at all like I thought it would. It didn't feel at all like me, you know? Well, except for the silly, goofy stuff. That's pretty me.
I think my NCIS fic is probably going to be my last ficathon piece. I've had abysmal failure at getting them in/getting them right. I don't do well
trying to write for other people. So I've promised my beta that I'll do challenges and prompts, but no more ficathon exchanges, because I suck at them, and can never get them in on time, and panic about the person getting what they want, and she's right. I'm sticking with challenges from now on, you know?
:::headdesk:::
In other news...I heard about your dis! Congrats. That must be quite a relief. I'm so glad for you. You can breathe, now....
:::pats Minxy on the back:::
Good for you!

Date: 2006-08-05 09:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, I've signed up for nothing (for obvious reasons) lately and it's nice to just fiddle with fic as I have time and have that be the Not Stressful part of my life. Interestingly, I did get some stuff written. Need to check in with Lovely Beta about a chat, actually. Not a whole lot of extra brain cells to devote to planning stories, though, so it's mostly polishing stuff that already had good bones. And giving prompts to anyone that hints for one.
But the diss is turned in, man. I'm about two inches taller now. Also? I worked out this morning. Felt bloody awful, but now I've got my little runner's high going. *trips*
HEY! I've been reading Sandman! Am totally in love with Death and decided the other day when my Dad asked that I was going to be her for Halloween (we throw a big party every year and I'll be traveling most of October beforehand, so there must be advance planning: cue secondhand grommeted belt and black leather buckled wrist cuff. Have wig from last year that I can style, have plenty of black clothing... now for her women's symbol!)

Date: 2006-08-05 11:50 pm (UTC)I love that you're going as Death for Halloween, that's excellent. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding an anhk. It's a pretty popular Egyptian symbol. Well, to get one that size may take some effort, I have to admit, most of the ones I've seen are much smaller. Cool idea. You need to get someone to go as Dream, you could be a matched set. *g*

Date: 2006-08-06 05:11 am (UTC)That may have been me? I did rec a Zoe/Wash fic here (http://sugargroupie.livejournal.com/114474.html) on July 26.

I adore Zoe, she was absolutely my in onto Firefly. Always have a draw to the doctors, but it was Zoe I loved. And Gina, OMG, kicked butt in Alias too, really amazing bad girl.
