now we ded from guh
Aug. 1st, 2006 04:56 pmWell, after several instances of near hyperventilation today whilst wrapping up the editing (self imposed deadline so as to focus on formatting and practicalities in the last 48 hours before turning in the tome, omg!) I stumbled upon this.
Scientific Method. PWP, Jack/Daniel, NC-17.
Which made my brain explode. This is a good thing, and I came back from that hazecraving a cigarette ready to dive back into editing as a calmer, less-panicked Minx.
Which makes, I think, the third day in a row, possibly fourth, in which either
taselby or
synecdochic has entertained me with snippets (synec's to prompts, here, work safe), fic (T's J/D ficathon piece yesterday, not-work safe) or exploding brains (both of them-- see above).
Wow. Thank you, lovelies.

Date: 2006-08-02 02:15 am (UTC)I am So Close to turning in this thing! Eeeeeee!
You are already uncategorically adored for entertaining me as often as you do with all kinds of wonderfulness, but should you find it in the goodness of your heart to create stuffs just for the pre-defense time? Gravy. Nothing but goodness. I'll find some way to adore you even more (I know it's possible-- probably involves syncrotron radiation...)

Date: 2006-08-02 02:54 am (UTC)You have the choice of:
1). "The Only Winning Move", aka "wargames at the SGC", aka the story where six years ago they might have been training exercises for all staff but by now they've turned into a strange combination of paintball and LARP. (Items 3 through 8 on the Official Rules are all there to close loopholes SG-1 has used to win in the past. There's a reason they're not allowed to all be on the same team anymore -- they cheat like mad.) Currently at about 7500 words, probably about half done.
2). The Sentinel/SG-1 crossover story, as yet untitled, where after the events of season 8, Daniel needs to go and remind himself what the Real World is like, so he calls up his old buddy Blair -- whom he hasn't seen in ten years, but it's okay, because Blair's the kind of guy where a ten-year pause doesn't change the friendship at all -- and gets there only to discover that Blair's partner Jim really, really, really wants to fix Daniel, because Daniel sets off all his people alarms. Currently at about 10,000 words, probably needs about ... oh, another 15,000.
3). The Quantum Mirror AU AU (no, that's not my keyboard stuttering), where Jack from one quantum reality (the one where Daniel died on Apophis's mothership) goes to find the Daniel from another quantum reality (the one where Daniel got tired of academic bullshit when he started seeing that nobody would ever support his theories and bailed on academia before The Disaster, and is now a translator for the United Nations) because Jack's reality is losing the fight against the Goa'uld, badly, and all their work through the quantum mirror indicates that the realities in which they're losing are the ones where they don't have Daniel. (It has nothing to do with the way Jack was in love with him. Really.) So they go to find a Daniel they can borrow. Except this Daniel isn't quite like the one they lost, and it keeps biting everyone in the ass. At about 11,000 words now, probably needs about another 20,000, maybe more if I wind up getting invested in the subplots.
4). The one where
5). The totally sweet, totally mellow story where Daniel gives Jack a backrub after a really bad week, and then smut ensues. It's, uh, not very deep. And I'm hating it right now. But!
6). The one that follows Cam and Sam through fifteen years of their weird bizarre friendship, from when they met in Frankfurt Airport waiting for a connection to get them home from Desert Storm and Cam talked Sam into coming home with him when he realized that she didn't have anywhere else to go, since she wasn't speaking to her father that year, and takes them through fifteen years of Cam being Sam's Guy Friend. Because everyone needs one. I haven't started this one yet, and it needs hellacious amounts of research, but I figured I'd throw it on the table.
Take your pick, and I'll see what I can do :)

Date: 2006-08-02 02:57 am (UTC)7). "These Are The Things I Will Save For You", a season 8 Jack/Daniel/Sam where they all remember what they're saving the world from, but by now they're a little fuzzy on what they're saving the world for.

Date: 2006-08-02 03:39 am (UTC)But you didn't say how long or whether you're close to being finished or anything, so, um, I lean towards this one? But if that's asking for a story that, you know, is no where near a good thing to work on, then ignore me.

Date: 2006-08-02 04:18 am (UTC)1. The Only Winning Move. HA! I would love to be looking at those rules and trying to back figure what SG-1 had done, who's idea it had been, and who carried out the plan. I bet Daniel would have found some fantastic loop holes (like having to stay in the room, and no, you can't crawl into the ceiling vents, and getting all the team captains wrapped up in a circular argument while Jack runs about tagging their aimless team members is foul play) and I've always liked the idea that Sam would fight dirty, smuggling in whatever, whenever, if she could get away with it... plus, T would never have to explain his own actions, and would probably cause some poor guy to have conniptions when he had to tell T that this year staff weapons are banned (because the year before Sam canniblized it to create some massive paint bomb that sprayed everyone with SG-1's paint) ...
2). The Sentinel/SG-1 crossover story. Haven't seen the sentinel, but I would totally read this just to see how quickly Daniel cottons on to what's happening, whether he allows the fixing/plays along, or goes totally stubborn on Jim. Plus, you could see him just talking them into knots when he'd had enough.
3). The Quantum Mirror AU AU. I've always wondered why no one played off the information that only Daniel containing universes survive... plus, ever notice that if Jack and Sam get together, it's certain doom? This sounds wonderful and plotty and I hope there is some good smut. *is possibly of a one-track mind*
4) I'll need tissues for that, won't I? Tell me they find a way to escape and build a little hell somewhere where they're at least safe. *wibbles* (just in case it's not clear: I love getting my heart trampled on, especially when it's done gorgeously and with craft.)
5) The totally sweet, totally mellow story where Daniel gives Jack a backrub after a really bad week, *covets backrub* smut ensues *now covets being a fly on the wall*
6. Didn't you write a snippet in this 'verse? Anyway, no hellacious research please, or I'll have to offer you a backrub, and possibly fic.
