Goooooaaaaaaallllllllll!!!!
Jul. 17th, 2006 07:20 pmJust emailed the last data chapter to my negligent advisor, and am fairly confident that as they stand, those papers are good enough for the dissertation. If he thinks of something that will improve them, well and good, but if he doesn't, they are as brilliant as I can make them. Who needs advisors, anyway?
Which leaves only the intro (drafted), methods (incompletely drafted) and conclusions to do in two and a half weeks, all of which will be read by the committee and no one else.Who needs committees, anyway? Unless it's a friend that I ask to read over those for me for spelling or whatever.
That feels like quite the major milestone in the drive to the finishline, so I'm happy. Also? I'm more or less on schedule, which rocks.
So... fandom? Fic? Yay?
ducks_in_a_row posted a J/D fic, which if not of a riotous pace, is still logical (close enough for science fiction), thoughtful, creepy and tender. I like that these two came together because they were just too tired not too, but that there was still a lot of concern about the other person no matter what. Gods and Monsters. NC-17.
princessofg continues in her marvelously conflicted Something Guys Do 'verse with Something Else Guys Do, in which Daniel continues learning the rules of the game, and breaking them. Go Daniel. NC-17. Stands alone.
Proving that I will read absolutely anything Sal writes: Wiseguy fic entitled Adrenaline,
troyswann, NC-17. I read it like original fic and thought it pretty darn marvelous (especially considering that Sal fears writing explicit stuffs), but for the fandom, apparently you have an undercover guy working into the mob/underground/organized crime and having to deal with the charisma of the man he's secretly trying to bring down. But you don't really need to know any of that as it's hypnotic, this fic; how the people work together is hypnotic.
I can't find if I recc'd this when I first read it, but it's an interesting John/Rodney with Teyla facillitating. Could have fallen into yenta-land, but I think she keeps a hold on Teyla's character enough to avoid it. Parsus. NC-17, het and slash, by lenore (=
scribblinlenore).
Also,
stellahobbit has created
science_beta, for all your scientific plot assistance needs. I totally joined and have contributed to discussions of 'maybe it could be an unstable orbit! nature, and it has been much fun.
yin_again and
ladycat777 wrote a really interesting moment out of time for John and Rodney, and the comfort of it all made me want to read slowly and savor the idea that wasting time is allowed. Gracious. Liberty, John/Rodney, NC-17.
kellifer_fic is writing lots of great stuffs. Here is da Slot A Into Slot B, which is Sam and Rodney, G rated. Other wonderful things to be found on her LJ.
synecdochic is referring to wonderful long Jack/Daniel fics (who, unfortunately, aren't behaving) and tiding us all over with Old Grumpy Married Love, but not that kind. Heterolifemates, ahoy: Not With A Bang is sweet and marvelous. G rated.
Crap, is that a sore throat I feel? Right underneath the headache? *tries to peer down own throat with the aid of a penlight* Time to start making up for lost sleep, methinks. Good thing I got that panicking thing under control for the moment.
Also, and this is just a public service announcement: I was spoiled on my flist earlier today by someone being somewhat witty about an upcoming episode. Yes, it was under a cut; no, it wasn't labeled with a spoiler warning. Even if it's next week, lovely flist, it's still a spoiler. Please. I know casting spoilers are tempting, but please.
Also, it's blog against racism week... but more on that later.

Date: 2006-07-18 03:44 am (UTC)Two weeks, dood, feels so very doable at this time. I can last two weeks. And if the intro or methods isn't all that? They can go ahead and list the stuff that's still lacking, and I'll do it, but they won't fail me. The hard stuff, the data chapters, that part is solid.
So, so close. Turning in that crazy diss in two and a half weeks will feel so good.
