I have such a crush on Teyla
Apr. 8th, 2006 07:22 pmTeyla is fabulous. Don't you just love her? Now, bear in mind that my experience with canon Teyla about matches my experience with fandom Teyla, so it's not all based on TPTB and their ability to write women. But she is a very different character from soldier!Sam, and different from Teal'c as well, though I think she has a lot in common with T; Teyla has a great emotional intelligence as well as a kick-ass ability to whack people with sticks; gotta love that.
Towards the end of Teyla appreciation, I give you:
pearl_o's Queen of Quiet. Particularly liked the portrayal of her instincts and how she adapts to Atlantis and learns from the Earthers. Also like that she very quickly learns the notion of sexuality apart from procreation. (SGA, Teyla/Rodney, R)
tielan wrote an extraordinary Teyla/Radek fic that shows, really nicely, how compatible their two personalities can be, and also lets one of my favorite supporting characters shine. Different, SGA, het, PG-13.
Other than Teyla fic:
katie_m's Jack adapting to Washington: Tourist Attractions (SG-1, S9, gen, G)
thegrrrl2002's longer lovely Rodney/John falling in love: Unanticipated Outcomes (complete), (SGA, J/R, NC-17)
I'm not really sure where all the SG-1 fic went, though. You guys haven't left me, have you? Writers? hello?

Date: 2006-04-09 02:35 am (UTC)Then I realized I had a bit of a thing for Teyla.
She's just so damned gorgeous, and she beats up men, and she's both serene and capable of intense anger, which is an intriguing contradiction.
But mostly she's just hot. /g/

Date: 2006-04-09 10:12 am (UTC)Ahem - I have two in beta as we speak and another (glances over at the 'in progress' file and shudders) goddess only knows how many on the boil. As I have stated before... my muse has ADHD. Sigh.
If anything, I'm more likely to start writing something like 'Doctor Who' or 'Battlestar Galactica' before I write SGA (other than the afore mentioned bunny - which is more of a bleed over from 'Farscape' and 'Andromeda' than anything else). I mean, I like and enjoy the show but it doesn't 'call' to me in the same way as SG-1 does.
Weird that, but then again... I never claimed to be 'normal'.

Date: 2006-04-09 05:58 pm (UTC)That was probably when I should've known, but really it was the recent spate of fic pairing Teyla with anyone that made me realize what a crush I had on her, because she'll adapt to the culture, take from it what makes sense, discard the rest; go into a relationship knowing what she wants and without guile, and also without a lot of the issues that plague Sam or Jack or Daniel or Rodney or John or Elizabeth.
And I love her ability to lead and follow and be warm and yet tell you when she thinks you are absolutely full of it, or get angry when it's appropriate. I think my favorite scene at the moment is when she tells someone that she wasn't 'on board' with the retrovirus test on Michael, but she trusted the group who believed in it and there is a huge difference. yeah.
plus, she's hot.

Saw the reveal of your anonymous fic, how did the feedback rate? I have to admit I've only read one or two things over there, and hadn't gone through yours. A quick glance at the first few lines told me you'd written a *great* Rodney voice, in which he can talk himself into the idea that anything means someone finds him physically attractive. hee!

Date: 2006-04-09 06:06 pm (UTC)It's nice to have finally seen Dr. Who, and it is so gleeful that I'm really enjoying it. Farscape I'm slowly but surely catching up on, but BSG I've not been able to mount any interest for. I know intellectually they're doing cool stuff, but the mini just didn't capture my attention, neither the shows since in the 5-10 minute trial run I give them to snag me. Am fickle.
I don't mind what you write, as long as you are writing SG-1 toooooo.....

Date: 2006-04-10 08:38 am (UTC)Oh and make that 3 stories in beta - one has come back, but mind you, it was one that I'd already posted to my lj (Angel, Falling). Just making it ready to put out 'there'
Trust me, Doctor Who will eat your braaain! Just wait about (checks calendar) 3-4 weeks until Captain Jack turns up. That or you'll get poleaxed by just how yummy Doc#9 is. It is a thing of great beauty that restarts on UK TV this Saturday *yay*!
BSG - needs time. Before you know it, it has wormed it's way into your psyche and taken over. It's complex, it's dark, brooding, beautiful and I love it terribly.
If you ever watched Babylon 5 and loved that, you'll grok this.
I love it for many reasons. The Adamas (plural), Prez Roslin, that it asks the 'big' questions and doesn't shy away from the answers.
I wish there was an episode that I could say 'watch this'! to get it. Other than 'Acts of Sacrifice/You can't go home again' - which is two episodes but it does have the joint greatest 'I love you, but I ain't saying the words!' scene EVAR! in the second episode. Edward James Olmos just knocks it right out of the park.
The other winner of this catergory being the J/D scenes in 'Abyss'.
