I don't know whether friends of friends are influencing each other accidentally or if it's pure coincidence or what, but it's certainly serendipitous. Good on your (plural) friend for going to town on a more unusual idea. Let me know if and when I can go lend support at my favorite bookshop (can I hope for a VIP pass to the book signings? heh.)
