I've started watching SGA so that I can keep up with the fanfic. Seriously, some of my very favorite writers, so I do read that now.
But yes *expansive gesture* aaaaaaall kinds of fic. I am discerning, but not about pairings. I'm even getting into *some* Sam & Jack stuff, mostly because I'm realizing a fair amount of it is friendshippy and I love that aspect, would've liked to've seen more friendship between them, actually.
I just have a big problem with two officers dating within the chain of command and a team and expressly against the rules they've each sworn to obey and this is their life and they'd jeopardize it? Even if it was an attraction that strong, it's a serious compromise of both of their ethics, and if it were an attraction that strong they would find a way to stay very close friends until they could in good conscience say that the chain of command issues were gone, the same team issues were gone and the ethical dilemma non-existant. But what I see is two decisive people hovering and pining, which is out of character. They don't even have the friendship to see them through the regs issue because they get so wierd around each other and nervous all the time that they can't hold a conversation.
But I think, as I'm getting more open-minded about it, here, that perhaps this is a fault of TPTB letting the writing suck. Perhaps, I tell myself, in the hands of really good writers, they would correct the oversight of sacrificing the friendship for stagnant romantic tension. So I dabble. If I trust the author, I'll even dabble in that 'ship.
Amazing, non? So I got your back. I'll rec ev'ythang I like. Just, ev'ythang. (I think the overall drop you sense is right, but mostly because people don't have a good handle on the new team dynamics and characters yet. But that's changing.)
