Hooray! It's wonderful. It maintains the excitement of straight-ahead linear dramatic action/suspense through the time-ranging, free-associating, fractured-perceptions narrative of Daniel's point-of-view -- way cool. Love the stake/vampire thing ("I am unfamiliar with the battle strategies employed against such an enemy" is pitch-perfect Teal'c) and adore the line Perhaps his own life was something he would come to value because they did (and what leads up to it). Also love that the story builds tension around the question of whether the rubbings will make it -- which makes Jack, in a way, as much the Antagonist as the Jaffa and as much the Obstacle as Daniel's wound. I love the way the affection and ribbing in Sam's opening section sets up the tension of what follows by emphasizing the find's importance to Daniel. (Also love the limericks/romance-novel lines.) The way Daniel's memories of Sha're's death weave into it all is lovely and poignant. So is the framing echo of 'Talk to me, Daniel,' but in a happier way, because we so often see Daniel (and Sam) shut down and stopped from talking. And then there's cake, so all is well. :-)

Great job!
