Rome episode 1.04 Stealing from Saturn.
Thoughts:
Okay, whoever said I should withhold judgement on Niobi was right, she's not entirely despicable even though she is manipulating one kid to protect another.
Ditto on Octavius even though I found him really irritating to begin with. Still cherishing a deep dislike of his mother (Atia? Thank goodness for IMDb).
Octavia I'm holding out on, that girl is whiney and wimpy and waifish. She'll probably be my favorite character in another three episodes. Bah.
Okay, so there's a trend in my thinking here, which causes me to be impressed to no small degree: you start out thinking 'these are arrogant, manipulative bastards and they really are not the least bit sympathetic!' Then, a few episodes later you're grudgingly interested in them as they show one or two noble instincts. Then, there will be this revelation of their motivations, something true will show through the chinks in their armour and suddenly you're FASCINATED with these marvelously flawed, deep, sympathetic even when being manipulative, interesting characters.
I still love Pullo and Vorenus the best. Particularly like how sweet Pullo is on that little girl (although clearly Vorenus is his soulmate). Hey, does she have a name? Do we know anything about her? Hmm.
Must watch another episode.
1.05 The Ram Has Touched the Wall.
Brutus' mother? What's her name? Servilia? Yeah. She's vengeful isn't she? While I never found her irritating, I did think she was a bit boring, pining after Caesar (though I couldn't understand why, really), now? Much more interesting. Good foil for Atia, I think. Whom I still dislike way a lot.
*hugs Pullo* *hugs Vorenus* *ruffles Octavian's ruffly hair* *subtley shoves them into a private room together*
Naiobi? Yeah, that's going to hurt. Don't know if I don't think it's better, though, that man was going to cause distruction.
Lastly, Cicero will forever be Mr. Collins to me. That's all there is to it.
1.06 Egeria
Because Vorenus and Pullo getting drunk together? And Pullo being all sweet and supportive and not telling him stuff he doesn't want to know? And hugging? And carrying him home? aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
We won't go into the fact that the name of this episode carries SG-1 connotations. Nope. And HEY! It's Andre from the Phantom of the Opera! He's not singing here, though.
Eh, whoops, Marc Antony got tired of Atia, did he? Was bound to happen. Black hole of honor when those two were in the same room together.
Ooooh! The ship! And the storm! Drat! *bites fingernails*
*makes offering of thanks at Sal's alter even while looking all shifty eyed since I've been lured into a new obsession*
