minxy: Two characters in lab coats posing heroically, with the words "Full Frontal Nerdity" (Full Frontal Nerdity by winterfish)
I keep seeing kerfuffles lately over Stargate U, and all I can think (whether people love it or hate it, I think this) is "Stargate got a university???" and then "Oh, universe" and then "University would be funny," and then "and possibly sexy, if Chris Judge were in his shirtless phase" and then "ew, I just pictured people my students age! Yuck."

This is the extent of my fannish behavior lately. Not just because Undercovers was canceled either (woe.)

Although, I am kind of hoping for people to write some Undercovers fic for Yuletide this year. This is as invested in Yuletide as I have ever been! But, having seen something of the tendrils of a kerfuffle about that, let me just weigh in and say: I have no idea what the kerfuffle is about! But I wish those of you participating excellent stories, both the writing and reading thereof.

Non-fannishly, I had this little emotional epiphany this weekend, wherein I realized that I have forgotten what I enjoy about living where I am, in the search for the place I will live next. I suppose this shouldn't be as surprising as it is, but I was a bit social with two different groups of people, and I took a walk around the lake tonight in our unseasonably warm weather (I didn't even need a jacket over my sweatshirt! Amazing.) Lo, I feel better. Must pay attention to that.

I continue to conduct phone interviews in new dialogs with universities, but I would love to drop all these dialogs and just accept the job in Washington State. Anyone in Washington feel like running around convincing people that they should *offer* me the job? *siiiiiiiiiigh* Academics being what it is, I won't even expect to hear for a few more weeks. But goodness, to have this process over.

Although, here's a story about the latest phone interview. I applied Thursday, with two of my lovely recommenders getting their letters in as well, so the application was probably there by 9 AM Pacific Standard Time (PST), with only a few letters missing. They emailed by the end of the day, application still missing two letters, and probably only 8 hours after the application was sent, to arrange a phone interview. Flattering, right? But they wanted to talk on Friday at 4 PM PST, which is 7 PM Eastern Standard Time (my time), which was kind of annoying, due to the aforementioned socializing, which I left early. But hey, flattering. And then they forgot! THEY STOOD ME UP. And when I emailed ~25 minutes after they were scheduled to call, they immediately apologized and asked to reschedule at my convenience mid-day on Monday. I figured, it's still enough of a good fit, and flattering enough, to forgive a slight inconvenience and mistake. But let this be a lesson to people in academia conducting interviews: a) TIME ZONES and b) ORGANIZATION. They are lucky they're cute.

Peanut butter and chocolate for dinner again tonight; I really have no idea why I have lost weight in this job.
