Sep. 30th, 2010 10:37 pmSo I'm in a state today. I got some constructive criticism and some unfortunate news, neither of which are overly horrible on their own. It's been a turning point for me this week, because I have been burning the candle at both ends for so many weeks that you add in apocalyptic schizophrenic weather* (if it's Tuesday, it must be a tornado warning, if it's Thursday, 'ware flash floods,) and I'm done.
It's probably a sign when I can't handle another day of the week and the week isn't done. I've been pressing forward with all the things I have to do and trying to do them well. They're absolutely worthy, but gods, I cannot keep this up. I do not know what to shirk. My advisor has been commenting that he's worried that I don't realize that the students will be fine with "pretty good" teaching.
This made me smile tonight, though: http://oddlyspecific.com
Next week, I have a talk to give, but I have a draft of the thing (and helpful editing comments to incorporate.) I give an exam next week, so that's a short lull before the grading comes in. I don't expect any calls about interviews until the end of next week at the earliest. I think that's promising; I can find a little time to relax in there. Hopefully this weekend.
*I'm weather-triggered for migraines. It's been a painful, too-bright, emotional roller coaster of a week. I am needy this week. If there were someone here to care for me, I would let them.
