relaxing is hard work
Sep. 4th, 2010 10:05 pmYa know, flist, it is a sign that I am exactly where I ought to be when every week brings something worth throwing myself into. This week, it was the first week of classes, and an adorable set of 20 pre-meds studying biochemistry for the first time and pumped. They are, too! They are absolutely excited to be getting one step closer to medicine, and they love every connection they make. Many of them are still mostly caught up in grades or not studying or whatever, of course, but some of them are really thinking, and it's the most wonderful thing to enable.
It is, however, the fourth or fifth week of getting to Friday and nearly collapsing around 2 PM because I'm just done.
Thing is, not only do I have to find the energy for another few hours of work when that happens, but I also have to get ready to do it all again for another good reason the next week. So, please believe me when I say that when I relax on Saturday, I relax *hard*, and with purpose.
So, picspam!
The first tree to really embrace the Fall fashions:

( It's almost Autumn here in NE USA, did you realize? I hadn't )
Other activities today included CSA share pick-up (what on earth to do with salsify root? How do you even spell that?) and the roasting of tomatoes, beets and potatoes with shallots and garlic. The tomatoes were blended into a sauce and served with ground turkey over pasta. The potatoes and beets were stored for lunches next week. Tomorrow: corn chowder. This week: another curry with the incredible Japanese eggplants and delicate green beans (the purple string beans turned green when I cooked them! AWESOME,) squashes and potatoes. The hot peppers from the farm are perfectly spicy with two to a pan, but I don't want to OD on curry, so I'm spacing it out to only one curry per week--this way it leaves me wanting mooooooooooooore.
Theoretically, curry would store well too, but I never have many leftovers to put up.
Yup, I think deep thoughts on my weekends these days. Cheers, guys! Happy weekend.
