minxy: Teal'c raises a hand to say "hey". (Default)
Sweet, fluffy, porny stuff for after your workday: The Schedule from [livejournal.com profile] thegrrrl2002 and [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle. A nice, fresh way to let them be playful together. John/Rodney, NC-17 in many ways.

Then [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle also gave us a slow build of a relationship through ptsd (not really- actually it's a nice use of a season's worth of events to let people take comfort in one another.) Anything in S2 or 3 is fair game, and it's very organic how they would grow to need each other and be so slow to ever talk about it. Slow Road to Enlightenment, John/Rodney, NC-17.

...and one more: [livejournal.com profile] kormantic's Four Boots, Five Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty Feet. In which John and Rodney's unconscious, pre-slashy flirting totally gets them smacked with some Pegasus Voodoo and they have to deal. Entertaining bodyswap, well written. NC-17.

Five Children Never Born to SG-1 from [livejournal.com profile] niamaea is a sort of fascinating use of POV to talk about familiar people. And whatever the circumstances that these kids understand far too well in some cases, you can still recognize how our characters would absolutely become those parents. It's subtle and interesting and not at all smoopy. Gen, worksafe, SG-1.

[livejournal.com profile] ltlj always brings the amazing team interaction and gen stuff with SGA, but this is aftermath, where sometimes lines are crossed, though in this case it still contains amazing team interactions and friendships and dynamics. Only there's a hint of slash. Still worksafe, actually, and adorable. Burnout, set after No Man's Land (S3 opener), PG-13, pre-slash for John and Rodney, Ronon is also a strong presence.

And, she has another one: aftermath fic, rather brilliantly done, only this time it's John and Ronon. I do love John's reactions in [livejournal.com profile] ltlj's stuff, though, it's about why a person would ask such a question so suddenly or take that kind of risk in that moment, rather than being about a big gay freakout that the person doing so was another guy. They have enough to freak out about, after all. The Right Place, NC-17, John/Ronon.

Another John/Ronon, from Ronon's POV, and a nice foreign set of priorities and culture; love that John values it, though. To Entangle So To Know from [livejournal.com profile] idyll, who does a really nice job with a connection between tacturn men. PG and worksafe.

[livejournal.com profile] 6beforelunch did an amazing crossover between Jack in Abyss with Firefly. Love how River and Jack communicate even as River's always interesting way of speaking drives Jack a little crazy (and keeps him grounded). Neither Here Nor There, Jack and River, SG-1/Firefly, worksafe.

Then there's [livejournal.com profile] paian, who wrote an extraordinary Five Things for Teal'c. In this case, Five Ways Teal'c Could Have Grown Up On Earth, I believe. Her descriptions of him are incredible, especially in different venues or arenas or roles--the ways in which he is less alien for having grown up here are marvelous, and the ways in which he is still recognizably Teal'c are incredible. God I love that woman's writing. Worksafe, and recommended strongly.

If, as [livejournal.com profile] paian has suggested, Daniel wouldn't have allowed clone!Jack to go off into the world alone and instead allowed a clone of himself to be made as a companion, it would set up an interesting complexity in the Jack/Daniel relationship. Paian/Komos wrote Not Us from the clone's POV; [livejournal.com profile] princessofg wrote Same Old Slippers about our Jack and Daniel, the ones who saved the universe and waited until retirement for each other. It's huggable its so warm and trusting. Both stories work together very well, not worksafe, though, either of them.

For something a little different, try [livejournal.com profile] sidlj's lonely Daniel/Cameron, with people who don't really get each other, but have so much trust despite it that they can take a lot of comfort in one another. Subtle and complex. Matinee, NC-17 (watch for Daniel's foot fetish).

For something completely different, Supernatural RPF from [livejournal.com profile] balefully and [livejournal.com profile] setissma: Don't Fight With Your Pillow. Heh. It entertains me, though for the life of me I couldn't tell you when I became a fan of RPF--I think it's just in Supernatural fandom. Jared/Jensen, NC-17.

Hilarious Dark Angel fic from [livejournal.com profile] minkmix: Normal, if you can imagine, and a holiday party. Fantastic voices from Normal as well as the fairly clueless Max and Alec, and Sketchy too, who causes some marvelous mayhem. Loved it, mean it. Merry Gentlemen, Gen, worksafe.

[livejournal.com profile] scarimor brings a moment inbetween for Sam and Vala, in a slight AU of Camelot. Liminal Space, femslash, R rated and not worksafe. Nice themes of choice and manipulation or not, and strength.

Here's another one from beautiful, gorgeous, lovely writer [livejournal.com profile] paian. Only this time it was my prompt yay! from [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree. I've been prompting all over the place lately, but unable to find the time or energy to actually write, despite having stories unfold in my head. If you're looking, though, this month's prompt at [livejournal.com profile] samcarter_gen is also mine--though I feel like I might have also submitted it to [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree (it would fit, it's about failure). I'd love to see someone write that prompt, though, if you have an inclination.

ANYWAY, [livejournal.com profile] paian, and an incredible [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree story from the prompt The Joy That You Find Here You've Borrowed. Jack and Daniel, in the smallest of interludes that they'll allow themselves. Because there are still battles to fight, and they haven't got the time to be selfish, just because the world ended. It's heartbreaking and wonderful.

Then [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic is continuing to write and post in a marvelous 'verse called Broken Wings. It's the AU in which Cameron makes a not-quite-complete recovery from the crash, and is living with chronic pain when JD, Jack's clone, arrives on his doorstep with a proposal and the chronic loneliness he's carrying. It's a really compatible, beautiful 'verse, peopled with extraordinary characters, and now it's gone and grown a story and a plot, it's engaging as hell. A WIP, though most of the stories stand alone. NC-17, Cameron/JD.

From the mixed up files of the multiverse comes a remarkable Firefly/Torchwood crossover. It's really difficult to explain except by saying that it's Inara and Jack, and a great deal of commonality, even if they aren't always on the same page, memory-wise. Seriously remarkable. Waltz, PG-13 and worksafe from irenak.

There was a contest going on in SGA slashdom called [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match, where for the same prompt a team would write romance and a team would write angst. This is an angst story, John/Rodney to the prompt of corrospondence. It's remarkably funny and together. It's great connection and chemistry--it's also angsty, but I loved that the angst was about the situation more than the pre-slash stuff. Corking good story. Rock, Paper (No Scissors). John/Rodney, R rated.

From way back in Yuletide comes a fun Eureka story, largely about Jack Carter and SARAH, but also about Fargo, sweetly. Please Discuss Only Approved Topics With Your AI. Gen/Bob and worksafe.

That's all I got! How are you people? I hear of an anonymous love meme, but then I also hear that it quickly crossed the line into 'love disguised as bashing of other characters', so I'm less inclined to participate. You get this from me: you get a recs list of love for my (many) fandoms, and favorite authors, and stuff. ETA: I lied and went over and loved on people. The character/actor bashing was minimal and overlookable, imo, and it was fun to flatter you guys and imagine that you'll totally recognize me through word choice. Hee!

I actually think I've forgotten some. I'll edit as the day goes on.

OH, like this one: Seawall from [livejournal.com profile] wojelah in [livejournal.com profile] choc_fic: elegant, and I do mean ELEGANT, Teyla story. Beautiful complex layers of understanding and thought and communication from her. The need and chemistry and connection with John is one of the best I've seen, and it's a gen story, or a story with UST maybe, because this stays thoroughly all about Teyla in all her strength. Lovely and sharp. Worksafe.

I'm on my second lunch and have apparently talked some friends who wanted to watch a movie with me tonight into watching my reel_sg1 film! SCORE! Also, I've been tagged!

I guess this means it's time to meme, yes? Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077, last seen in [livejournal.com profile] thassalia's LJ:

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1. I enjoy laughter, jokes, teasing, occasionally raunchy humor (that's blue humour, if you're British) and consider myself fairly sex-positive. If I know you well, I'll probably tell you how my chest (I'm curvy) is a shelf and catches all kinds of things, occasionally launching the odd dropped kernel of corn waaaay out into space. I do not care for crude language or behavior, though, so it will probably be a while before I start joking like that, no matter what the standard MO for the crowd is, until I know that you also know the difference between dirty/funny and crude. My boating team in general is pretty crude; some of them have figured out that I can totally tell a dirty joke, but others think I don't even know how to have a dirty thought.

They are so, so wrong.

2. I look young, I'm told (repeatedly, often) and so when I started this new job I decided to dress a little more professionally than anyone in California would expect me to. Thus, I traded in my jeans for slacks and skirts. I didn't buy new clogs and instead have some flats, a pair of marvelous deep red sketchers and a pair of green mules. These are paired most often with layered solid t-shirts.

I'm surrounded by people in shorts and flip-flops, but at least people stopped assuming I was an undergrad and started assuming I was a master's student.

3. I was a blonde, blonde little one. I'm back in the sun now and my normally pretty mahogany brown hair is getting distinctly golden right around my crown. I'm serious--these aren't light brown highlights, they're *blonde*. I'm going to look two-toned. In addition to looking like an alien with my light eyes and dark skin.

4. I had to tell a man on Monday that he was pushing too hard and I needed him to back off a little. I felt a little bad about it, but he bounced right back. So now I'm resorting to creating a deliberate schedule for a while to make sure I don't see him more than once a week. He's like a puppy. A big, 6'4" puppy, and I'm worried that he likes me so damn much, because it makes me feel like I'm not keeping up and we're doomed as a couple. It can't be a good sign that I have him on rations.

5. I think I'm going to be the Mata Hari for Halloween this year. I'm in the market for a good, supportive coin bra or bikini top with sequins to build the dress on. Hook me up with links if you see something great. I have most of the jewelry already, but I'm still looking for a headband too--problem is that I need one that looks a little bit vintage and while jewelry from Afghanistan is perfect for the wrists and neck, the headbands seem to be all for modern dancers and too clean looking. I need character.
This is the Mata Hari:

6. I have a chihuahua living in my house. She is cute and quiet and surprisingly adorable, but I want a real dog. A big fluffy dog with eyebrows and more than one expression whom you can hug without breaking.

7. I am starting to think really seriously about laser eye surgery. It would just be so *nice* to wear sunglasses regardless of whether I was too lazy to put my contacts in this morning. Or have to track down my glasses after I took out my contacts only to belatedly realize the glasses aren't where I usually put them. Or to be able to see the clock when I wake up blearily wondering what time it is.

Thinking about it, anyway.
