dark_fic recs
Dec. 14th, 2006 12:05 amThings wot happened in the dark_fic (the master list):
Summary: the team, they got messed up. Sometimes, they are messed up themselves, with messed up coping mechanisms, sometimes, it's the world outside that broke them. I'm not sure which is more heartbreaking.
Highlights:
synecdochic's epic Close to Bone. This is Jack at his most conniving, most petty, most bitter--and most trusted by his former team. The depths, they shock. Slash, R rated, S10.
rowan_d wrote incredible broken Sam, and what could do it, and what she lets go of and what she holds on to. What she builds and what she destroys. Grey Between. The sensory descriptions of the little things left to them are exquisite. Sam/Cameron, worksafe, gorgeous.
[caveat I R beta'd this lector]
kellifer_fic's Bait and Switch is very nice Sam and Daniel against the world, finding unlikely causes and unlikely allies. AU from the movie on--Kowalski commands the first team, but Jack has his connections, and he knows who his friends are. pre-slash, worksafe.
[I R sorta beta'd this a little bit--the science bits]
eve11's Mine Eyes Have Seen takes Meridian and arguably fixes it, only everyone ends up neck deep in gray areas, with only their most deeply held beliefs to see them through it. This could be one of the most fascinating character studies I've seen, and it's an action story. Gen, worksafe.
recap: Oh, they are so broken. This ficathon started from discussion about which characters could turn the others darkside, whether it would always be Daniel, or more likely Jack, or more insidiously Sam, or what. I love the variety of who casts the darkside blow in these stories.
Side note: I was going to whinge about how yet again, my fic does not come in on time (I'm one for, what, five? 20% average?) but then I saw that
paian is writing for me, and I just can't complain about that. Who could?
Next up? The rare_pairings ficathon. And updates as tardy (but no less worthy!) dark fic comes in. I'm having trouble keeping up lately--the holidays are already beginning, it would seem.
In conclusion: read my fic too! Penumbra and Footsoldiers on Uneven Ground. Thank yoooooou.
ETA: Hey, there's a rose in my user info. That's rather sweet. Thank you, responsible person!
