Hi. Hi guys.

Something happened on Tumblr, I guess? Welcome, other lurkers.

Seeing people being all active again made me want to post something, but it's such a tangle of fishhooks, I don't know where to start.

A white man with probably PTSD harmed my students and my community. He walked into my student's college scene bar and shot them. Some of the people I see every day were traumatized by not-my-colleges-students being killed, because communities are interconnected. Some are just scared. I don't know how to teach like this. The whole semester has these huge ???????? symbols over everything.

I have a toddler now, she's wonderful, she gives so much to me, and she needs a lot from me.

I have a spouse who took over the family business after his dad died earlier this year. That was hard enough, but now he has a broken elbow. He couldn't even change the baby's diaper for a while there. He needed a lot from me.

I kind of reacquainted myself with my religion during this time. It is a blissful 1 hour a week where no one needed anything from me, but also where the church I found was keen to engage with social justice issues and had a multicultural community and... yeah. I sobbed my way through the first familiar service after the mass shooting in my town. I imprinted.

The country has moved on from our town's deaths and mass shootings and fires. I don't know how I feel about that. How is it that we have so many traumatic scandals that this was soooooo two weeks ago?

I adore my daughter, and she loves music. Your favorite songs to sing to babies during the holidays, please?

Also, remember us when it comes time to vote, USians. Please. Gun violence research. Climate change. Education. #enough

Hi! Uh, are you living in or near Ventura now? Because if so, I am...near. *g* And I know what it's like to be harmed and have my community harmed by a mass shooting, first hand. All my sympathies. I'm glad you are well, and your family too, broken elbows and neediness and all. <3

It is so great to hear from you. I am delighted at the update about your family.

I did not realize you were living so close to Thousand Oaks. I am so sorry. We are all kind of wandering in a tense fog right now.

Fannishly I am still in a huge lull... reading a lot, not writing a thing. Reading a lot of profic too.

Not consuming much new video media except the Avengers movies. I tend to rewatch things, like Leverage or Burn Notice or All the Austen Movies.

My job is great, both my kids are in college now (I KNOW!!!), and I am basically okay. I think.

Don't feel bad! We moved back about 3-4 years ago, after we got hitched, and the baby turned me into a non-poster. My family is in PDX. My in-laws are here (bless them and their insanity).

The spousal (as one of my colleagues says) has realized I am Not Okay, and as he's healed he's very deliberately taken on as much family/house as he can. I see it, and appreciate it, but I wish either it was more, or the semester was shorter. I have two more weeks! I can make it!

I honestly watch the Great British Baking Show (gave the current season a chance, still on the fence), Sherlock when it ever airs anything, RuPaul's Drag Race, and Road Kill (or Road Kill Garage). I... am not up for much. I asked for someone to help me watch Black Panther over Christmas as my main request. We'll see?

But parenting is not for the birds, you know? It's awesome and amazing and HARD and nothing is ever the same for more than a few days at a time!

Greetings, neighbor to the (I think) near south. If you are offering a cup of coffee and/or empathy, I am so in. It has been a hard, hard semester/year and I can't remember what it was like to be in a room with someone who understood.

The broken elbow is healing quickly. The spousal is not clueless and is stepping up his co-parenting game.
