minxyI am not feeling well, and for once, I didn't get it from my students (I got it from a friend with a young child, the little incubators.) I don't know that I'll make it all the way through this, but what the hell! Have a meme.

As part of the wonderful *makes sparklehands leaping gesture* of posting that's going on around here, the revivification effort among my lovely flisters, I'm going to try to do this meme. It won't be every day--I can't manage the "post every day for 30 days" or the "10 in 10" challenges because of my teaching schedule--but I will try very hard to post more often.
Question 1: Introduction
I am minxy at dreamwidth/AO3 and _minxy_ on Livejournal. I am a 30-something overeducated white woman living on the West Coast of the US. I teach biochemistry and chemistry to bright young minds at a private, liberal arts, religious university, and my sometimes live-in sweetheart and I are considering leaving to sort out this "sometimes" thing. His stuff is here but his job remains behind; we've done this semi-long distance thing for 2+ years now, and are keen to have two good jobs in the same state. So I am therefore applying to move back to California despite having amicably broken up with said state oh, 4 years ago now. I did agree to marry the boy, though, so it's clear I prioritize him over my tenure line, or my lack of appreciation of the SoCal culture, I suppose.
Rather than posting a photo of myself, which is just not on, I shall paint you a picture of my house:
Not for the first time, I live in a small, yellow, cottage. This one is a row house in a part of my city where workers at the casket company used to live, and half a block from the river. The house is one room wide, two floors high and two rooms deep. The neighbors are close at the sides, but the back yard faces a hill that is city property and therefore wild. The light is good in the backyard, so we are growing tomatoes in a hedge (I cannot stand raw tomatoes. My sweetie is half Italian, and the genes are strong. We compromise. I make a lot of sauce when he is not home.) Currently on harvest are also cantaloupe and watermelon, cucumber, zucchini and squash (and 5 kinds of tomatoes). The eggplants are trying so hard to fruit before Autumn hits in earnest! And there are always herbs and flowers. Sadly, hooligans in the neighborhood keep roughly ripping the sunflowers off their stalks in the middle of the night, so no flowers in the front are safe! No one can see my little postage stamp garden from the front, though.
