(oh, god, Minxy, I am having SO MUCH grad school angst right now. I want to just go hide under my desk and come out when I can be handed my PhD)

Date: 2010-08-25 01:24 am (UTC)I remember the grad school angst, I do. It would be nice if the shiny happy new grad student patina never wore off, wouldn't it? I forget who said that a Ph.D. is really just an exercise in endurance, but it's really true, and pushing through the walls in your project can be really satisfying if you manage it. If it's people? Then the only thing I got is that difficult people are not unique to science, and quitting would not rid you of the problem of them. Better to learn to anticipate and redirect, or manage them. Then you can get back to the occasionally rewarding experimental work!
...in hindsight. For you, all I have is good will. I hope for a breakthrough! Best of luck right back atcha!

Date: 2010-08-25 02:57 am (UTC)Sadly the angst is mostly related to "OMG I REALLY need my advisor to start doing her job" which is, well, difficult to deal with although, yes, difficult people are everywhere. I am slowly learning the trick of managing up, but there is only so much I can do. But! We *crosses fingers and knocks on wood* appear to currently have functioning instruments, which is the Most Amazing Thing Ever.
And thanks :)
