What was that? Oh, yeah, Firefly, people... from the girl who introduced it to the THINGers. Warning: I have an OTP in this fandom. It is Mal/Simon. I'm about as loyal as I am to any other OTP.

[Reccer's note: I'm ridiculously behind updating these lists. If you're up for a little sleuthing, you'll find new recs under this tag and all tossed together.]

To begin with: a hysterical summary of the Firefly 'verse, in the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van comm written by [livejournal.com profile] sparky77, who tries really, really hard to keep it from going slashy... and almost succeeds. Doesn't really give away too much of the plot of individual episodes, so it's really not too spoilery.

Also: Serenity in 1000 Words or Less. Obviously, spoilers for the Big Damn Movie.

Fanfic:

Some perfectly wonderful Firefly smut from [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc. She wrote characters that I, in principle, am on board with, but rarely see written as three dimensional (*koff*JOSS*koff*) So this is Inara/Jayne. Seriously. A little dark, perfectly in character, and fascinating. NC-17, kink and multiple partners, I suppose. Really something. Benificence.

Sweet (which is something, considering it's hilarious Wash and Jayne) Firefly ficlet, also from [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc. Great Balls of Fire, for [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce. Jayne, Wash and alcohol. Yes. Worksafe.

[livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl wrote a really nice crossover between Firefly and SGA called Out of Place (gen, Simon in Atlantis, worksafe) and then [livejournal.com profile] blueraccoon followed it up with a sexy sequel called A Place To Be (NC-17, Simon/Ronon, not worksafe). I'm not sure what makes me ache more for Simon, that he is away from everything in the Firefly 'verse, or that being away is what lets him be happy.

Fantastic are the results of this Five Things meme going around:
Cofax wrote particularly interesting Firefly ones.

[livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle writes bits of things to IBARW (intl blog against racism week) prompts that include Dark Angel (they're all kind of set in that 'verse), Angel and Firefly snippets. Nine Rules for Living in a Broken World.

Three Men and a Jail Cell by [livejournal.com profile] resmin SGA/Farscape/Firefly. From the multiverse ficathon. John Crichton, John Sheppard, and Mal Reynolds walk into a jail cell, and there is no bad here. PG-13.

More multiverse: Dancing in Emptiness by [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti Firefly/Star Wars. Kick-ass River voice, kick-ass Yoda training River.
Finding the Rain by [livejournal.com profile] _bounce Firefly/Doctor Who (Jack/Mal). Jack comes to Mal’s aid in bar fight and ends up on serenity.
A Fish Named Cheung by [livejournal.com profile] roachspit Firefly/Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Arthur and Ford end up on Serenity. Arthur and River discussing the translator fish in his brain is priceless.

Firefly:
With Their Eyelids Shut, by [livejournal.com profile] voleuse (in [livejournal.com profile] moodfic) is Wash and Zoe backstory, just a little bit, with Wash so wide-eyed and stunned by Zoe, and she is finds him so adorable. I'd totally crawl in Wash's lap if he started explaining the differences between dinosaurs (I know all about them from my brother's phase of obsession ca 1985, of course, but I'd still be in Wash's lap.) It's sweet and PG-13.

[livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc proves once and for all that Kaylee, Inara, Zoe and River are totally girls I could hang with: Heat Wave, R. Sweet and silly and short. Firefly.

Inara and River: [livejournal.com profile] thassalia's Treading on the Toes of a Grimm Reality where River is given rhyme and reason, the better to be understood by the reader, but no less complex to her shipmates. Inara's tenderness for her is great.

Firefly crossover with Stargate: Replicarter goes head to head with River and Zoe. OMG, I'm so sorry, that was a terrible pun. Along Came a Spider by [livejournal.com profile] liminalliz for Cofax, I'd give it PG-13, because it's walking a dangerous line, but they're all accustomed to that and deft at it.

[livejournal.com profile] cofax7 has posted a fantastic Firefly/Farscape crossover too for Thea (Contredanse) in which Aeryn and Zoe are wonderful and there are witty subtitles to the chapter headings.

Water In One Hand by [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl, apocafic of a very slow, smart, alliance screws the little people kind. Mal/Simon by the way. PG-13.

[livejournal.com profile] iphignia939 wrote a marvelous Serenity fix-it/crossover with SG-1 (later seasons, say 6-9) called The Sound of One Hand Clapping. Wash. I love Wash. G rated.

from [livejournal.com profile] brigidestone, a look at River and Mal and harnessing the darkness, trusting the light: White Snake, het, River/Mal, post-movie.

Not brand new, but for your consideration: Rebecca's Firefly ([livejournal.com profile] blueraccoon). Mal/Simon, with a lot of hurt and a lot of past, where their individual ways of coping are destructive to themselves and coming together to cope may destroy the crew: Glue. Mal/Simon, BDSM. During the series, but no particular time.

This is, in fact, Supernatural/Firefly, and it works really nicely, with subtle little changes building to impressive story. Plus, Sam/Simon, and Dean and River are marvelous, as is River's bossing about of Simon. Ticket to Anywhere by [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary, R rated, ish.

[livejournal.com profile] safirasilv wrote a harsh, violent and cathartic Mal/Simon, where they, very in-characterly, fail to communicate as much as they ought, but the sexual tension is through the roof. Untitled, Mal/Simon, NC-17 and a little bit dark.

[livejournal.com profile] bugchicklv? Have you seen this? Lookit: A convincing write of a pairing I require convincing of. I liked this, and I think it really could go down that way: Working the Night Shift, River/Jayne, Firefly, NC-17 by [livejournal.com profile] literarylemming= Mnemosyne.

[livejournal.com profile] only_fell wrote a beautiful bit of backstory for Inara: Miyako Odori. Brings into beautiful context the statement of the pilot that so few men are mysterious. Firefly, pre-series, no spoilers, Inara, PG rated.

[livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl successfully managed Firefly Mal/Simon! Hot concept, fill in the steamy blanks with your own favorite interpretation. Yum. A Very Smutty Mal/Simon Ficlet.

I can now credit victoria p. with the authorship of the beautiful Canticle for These Women, a remix of the gorgeous Daughters of Jerusalem by Hth. Both these pieces are lovely with a serenity befitting the all that means in the show, and I think together they will transcend the fandom and be worth reading regardless of whether you know the 'verse. They are that good. Poly, rate it, dunno R?

[livejournal.com profile] brighidestone wrote a marvelous first kiss for Mal and River, complete with happy nutty River statements and confused confused 'going to the special hell just for THINKING this' Mal. Stays pretty sweet, but still, River is at her ease about things a lot faster than other people sometimes, and it just feels like Mal is going to have to catch up sooner or later. First Kiss.

[livejournal.com profile] brown_betty wrote me a fic from this prompt (tangent: because honestly, now that's in your head, can you THINK of anything else? If anyone else asks me for a prompt in the next week they're getting pointed to this photo. I'm still drooling.) and I luuuuuurve it. Firefly, gen: Still, to be Neat; Still to be Drest.

There's a sweet little Firefly thing posted this morning, about coming together after one more loss than you can stand, and it's a nice exploration of what can be solved by sharing grief and what can't. Too Much Loss by [livejournal.com profile] msgsmurf. Poly, PG.

[livejournal.com profile] resonant8's [livejournal.com profile] 3_ships present is the lovely and ethereal Daughters of Jerusalem by HTH. Inara/Mal/River, and a beautiful, elegant Firefly poly, spoilers for Serenity.

Unbalanced by [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl. Gen bonding moment between Inara and Jayne. Post BDM, and completely in character. Jayne's class awareness alone is stunning.

Also from [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl is Spectacle a Mal/Simon pre-slash piece chock full of banter and UST and pushing and testing. Nice character voice, very believable frustration and arguing with each other.

Boundaries by [livejournal.com profile] naughtyelf at [livejournal.com profile] the_pretty_fits, which should tell you that it's Mal/Simon. It's not particularly graphic, but it's a nice first time for several reasons, and the one I shall mention is that the rest of that lovely crew doesn't just disappear, that they all still care about each other and are protective and quirky even after Mal and Simon notice each other. It's good, it's short, it's post 'Out of Gas' and picks up during the last few moments of that ep.

Mal/Simon by [livejournal.com profile] kispexi2, finishes a three part story: Trust, Lost and At Last. Nice emotional and psychological complexity. She calls it horribly romantic. *G*

Mal/Simon and Mal/Inara, really emotionally complex and kewl. Bears no relation to the SG-1 ep of the same name. Chimera by [livejournal.com profile] themoononastick. A 'love the one you're with' fic.

Cheyenne by [livejournal.com profile] seldear. Firefly/SG-1 crossover, in which SG-1+Jonas are the crew of a formerly Alliance ship (Gate-class) and the Sam&Kaylee, River&Cassandra, Teal'c&Jayne, Mal&Jack parallels are kinda wonderful. Good story.

Between the Lines by [livejournal.com profile] naughtyelf is a lovely Mal/Simon take on Serenity. Yes, the BDM, yes, rampant spoilers. Rated R, maybe. Respectful take on Inara and Kaylee and their relationships with the two men.

Dark piece: Mal/Simon (warnings for character death, but not M or S): Wasteland by [livejournal.com profile] simmysim rated R.

Firefly/Alias crossover by [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti. Oh, WIP in shorts. Sadly, am now committed to the WIP and must watch carefully. Is too short, though! Too short now! I want a Sark-pet

Autumn by [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle. Firefly, gen. Oh. Oh, so gorgeous. It's... EVERYONE SHOULD GO READ THIS. It's lovely, and it's appropriate for Halloween. Oooh! Here's a line: "Somewhere, some calendar marks today as All-Hallows Eve, and the ghosts of all their old battles float to the ground into a leaf-pile of memories."

Fruition (the quince fic) by lyrstzha. More Firefly goodness. Simon/Mal, for like, half a SECOND *starts, then glares at plot bunny who bounced energetically forward*. Naw, it was cute little Firefly fluff. "...Your brother know you’re up here pontificatin’ on food?" Hee! Quince.

A Firefly Mal/Simon snippet Subsist posted in [livejournal.com profile] fireflyslash. *guh* with the Mal/Simon.
