Gonna be some changes made
I was outside today doing plumbing work (outdoor) when I wasn't sorting out a problem with the bracing in the wall frames and covering up a little oops with a failure to sink the bolts properly into the concrete foundation (there really isn't a way to go back and fix that.) And that's after I sewed the other arm on my Mother's wing chair that she wants a slipcover for (*patterned*, God help me, again. She never makes it easy) and found half a dozen apartments I wouldn't mind living in from Craig's List in the New City.
So you may imagine why
But I was wrong, because I have this cheeky new browser! Yay! That is much more compatible with my del.icio.us account! YAY! So I've been marking things with the tag ReadMe and then going back to change that to RecMe (are you guys interested in this? I know I have librarians on this list, and so, I *organize* and assume you care.) Right, so you are so more than welcome to peruse the del.icio.us account (me=minxy) but be aware that it's a hold-all place for things I intend to read, and are not necessarily recommendations. There is a link in my sidebar now, though, because it's working pretty well for me.
Also, I would just like to say that despite the subject line, I am *so into* Mary J. Blige and Amy Winehouse at the moment. I believe I can blame my flist for pointing me to Amy Winehouse.
But yes! RECS! There are 10 in my RecMe tag! Because that's what I do, and I have a sneaking suspicion that while I'm technically writing and stuff, the fact that my mostest trustedest betas are having wonky health and head issues means... you may or may not see those for a while. And if you do see them? It might just be smoke and mirrors for the fact that I'm all distracted by the imminent move.
But, recs:
For your genderswitch reading needs (there were a remarkable number of remarkable genderswitch stories lately,) I suggest you begin with
Chase that with John and Rodney, in a series of changes that takes them so far into each other that heterosexual identification becomes so very irrelevant and limited. Remarkable femslash, but it's the journey towards wanting each other that made the story for me. Always Should Be Someone You Really Love (links to part 2, this series is complete), NC-17, John/Rodney, genderswitch and discussions of het, slash, femslash and use of toys. It runs the gamut, really well. From

This is (sadly) a WIP, which I didn't know before I started reading, but I need to rec it anyway, even as a place holder. It is marvelous writing and extraordinary Daniel voice, complete with philosophical asides, pettiness, liguistics, and random lateral jumps in thinking. The Continuation of Life (Not Quite San Souci). Crossover with SGA, slash, from
While we're on crossovers, this is John on Earth, not quite sure why he's accepted an invitation to road-trip with SG-1. Loved minervacat's deft understanding (and clear love) of basketball, how John and Cameron bond so easily over the game, and how it becomes a platform for seeing how many other ways they can connect. Multileveled growing connection is seven levels of awesome:
Lessee, what else I got? (I'm loving the timing of starting this whole del.icio.us rediscovery thing just when my comment notifications are on the fritz).
Oh, a series tag from
Two S10 Jack ficlettes, one slash or Jack and Daniel friendship, and one pre- or post-het. The first is a drabble from
For those of you who were involved in pimping me in to Supernatural, this section is for you (I can quit at any time I can quit at any time I can quit at any time I can quit at any time I can quit at any time.)
And in conclusion,

Uh-huh. I believe you. *nods*
Am I convincing enough?

Of course we care! Admittedly, as wonderful as del.icio.us is, it does need to work on being able to search more than one tag at a time. But that's me thinking like a librarian again!
I
stupidly!volunteered to rec onBTW - check the Alien Altars link, I don't think it's working properly...
Did you catch

Thanks for the links to your del.icio.us account. I've got then opened in another window right now. :D ::squishes you::

It's a slippery slope, reccing. You just watch yourself over with those crack_van people. They'll tell you you can try it once, but that's just how they get you hooked.
Have not seen prin's new OT3! Of the yay! Very much of the yay! I must catch up with my flist...

I was a tagger for the newsletter for a long time, so absolutely everything slash got tagged. RL means I had to stop the newsletter helping, but I haven't gone back to sort through the old links so.... tread carefully, I'm still sorting out the kinks.

Why is the weekend over? I don't wanna go to work! I wanna stay home and read! ::sulks::

Sure you can.
The two stories that put me over the edge into SPN were probably
Socktacular Socktacular is absolutely hysterical.
And lookit all this SG-1 fic I can't read until I finish watching S10! Argh!

Speaking of which, if you're up to it come this Friday, would you be my beta? It won't be terribly long (as it's PWP) and it's River/Kaylee. Please? *puppy eyes*

YESSS!

Both the Jack S10 fics are completely Not Spoilery. In fact, maybe I should go back and label them S9...
I shall now go track down the two fics you mentioned at add them to my to read list.

I'm always happy to enable something as wonderful as more femslash! Wheeee!!!!

*points and laughs* Yes, as I was updating my recs page this weekend - I think there are well over 150 recs there now, and I could easily have 250 more, if there were more hours in the day to code them - I remembered fondly when I thought the same thing. So I mock with love. *g* Nice to see you reccing onelittlesleep's classic, tho. (Can something be a classic in less than a year? If so, that's one.)

I should have a new apartment lined up by April 12th, and then we can pick a date for road trip, if you're up to it.
We'll need a really kick-ass soundtrack though, you realize that, right?

Hm. Apart from the obvious stuff from SPN, which I guess would be nice to hear, I'm kinda cheesy: REM is my poison of choice, and I like to listen to Avril Lavigne's "Mobile" when I'm, uh, mobile. That's two examples off the top of my head. But I'm open to all and any possibilities. Except maybe hip-hop.
What equipment will you have? Shall we need CDs? Tapes? MP3s? Separate audio device with speakers?
And guhh, I so hope I'll be up to it by mid-April. I really do.

I can't imagine being a front line reccer the same way for SPN; at the moment I'm rereccing things other people have recced somewhere. I doubt very much that I'll be throwing any titles around you haven't seen, but I say that very much aware that it was never my intention to more than casually rec in Stargate either.
Oh God. I'm doomed. I suppose it would be silly to cling to you like a life preserver?
(classics are good. It never hurts to start with classics. Even ones that are only a year old.)

I have very eclectic musical taste, even a little hip hop in my collection, but would you object to soul? R&B? Jazz? Blues? Bluegrass? Various and sundry alternative bands?
We could always call on the flists for assistance too.

I'm very much into the types of music you mentioned, because it's beautiful. And I guess it depends on the artist anyway, so we'll see.
How about mainstream? REM? U2?
Also, I must confess to a little hip-hop myself, in the form of a certain drop-dead gorgeous German singer (yes, GERMAN. WHAT?)
*is yay*

Wheee! Thank you for all the great new links to read! And for the rec of 'A million years' too -- very grateful and flattered, as always.

It should not be this easy to get addicted to fanfic in a new fandom.

(you're welcome! Write more yay!)
(only, I should really post some of my stuff too)

I think the thing is, that once you're used to using fic to interact with a fandom, it's that much easier to do it in the next one, and the next one. Even fandoms that maybe you're not all that attached to, because you think the show is shallow or silly or not that well-written. But if the fic is good, and there's enough of it, well, look out. You get attached to the characters through the fic instead of the show, but that carries over onto the show, and you're doomed.

and all you sg-1 cool babes who are stampeding into SPN, be sure to say hi to my friend vshendria. when she finishes her "The Faculty" epic and starts writing SPN, liek woah. look out. and oh, yeah.... angstslashhope! she rocks.
it's so weird now to have been in fandom long enough that people i know are meeting other people i used to know in new fandoms. weird. like a cocktail party on six floors of a building, you know?
i heart this. hee hee.

I'll be that social butterfly flitting between the third and fifth floors in the fabulous little red number. Yup.
You are so, so welcome. I am glad to see writing making you happy again.

So I am trying very hard to cut back on my flist. Forgive me! It's always friending amnesty day over here at casa de las Minxes, but the manic friending/defriending is purely RL motivated and pleeeeease don't feel bad! I remain absolutely convinced that you are still terribly awesome and that my flist will crow madly should you pull another devastating feat of awesomeness I should know about.

I could work on that tonight. Hrm....

*head/desk* Doomed. Doooooooooomed. Because the stuff I've read so far? Including Vehemently's? IS BRILLIANT.
It's really fun to be late to the party sometimes, though, because people are reccing already and sorting out the chaff. I remember being this starstruck entering Stargate fandom and stories ca, what, S6? S7? Something like that.... which probably means I'm extra doomed.
Awesome.

About the del.icio.us account. I love mine. I just added you to my network; it's rather small, but then, it's kind of early, yet. But it's pleasing my obsessive/compulsive librarian's soul to no end. Well, my mother was the librarian, so I think I'm actually channeling her, but I'm tagging like there's no tomorrow. I seem to have gone over the deep end, to be honest.
But then that's probably got something to do with the fact that I'm slowly importing all my firefox bookmarks into del.icio.us (long story...clean out my bookmarks...switch operating systems...can't back up my data - yadda, yadda, yuck.) But I love the importing feature - I'd hate to have to add them one at a time. And the fact that you don't have to "share" them until you're ready to make them public is an added plus for me.
I'm actually putting all the ones I haven't read yet in a different account so they don't clutter up dusty_ryder. Are you getting the idea that I'm taking this all too seriously? :::headdesk::: And of course I'm adding them as I read, so right now I'm more than a bit top heavy on Spike/Xander fic, since that's what I'm reading the most of at the moment. (Just what I need - *another* fandom!) But I'm slowly getting the other fandoms caught up, sharing them as I clean up the entry and get the tags in shape. Oi. I think I need a life.

I love you just the way you are. Hee!
For me, there's a tag now called ReadMe, and those are one's I haven't vetted yet. There are still all the undiscerningly tagged fics for the newsletter that I'm slowly going through and editing, but I'm finding that I don't mind having some of the fic on there that I might not necessarily go out of my way to rec. It's interesting. I am enjoying.

Ha! I had the exact same fannish trajectory. I'll always think on Trek fondly, but SG-1 and I are in a comfortable long-term relationship now (and it doesn't mind if I look at other fandoms on occasion).
