rerecs! Getcher rerecs here!

I am BETTER! and LJ is BETTER! Yay! We must celebrate, is my thinking.

So I asked for recommendations of stuff wot you've read and enjoyed in the last month without me (it is a bitter pill that life goes on when I'm not there, I tell you) and y'all came through in fine form. Your recommendations are here.

Two recs, though, really need louder crowing, to my mind.

One is some perfectly wonderful Firefly smut from [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc. She wrote characters that I, in principle, am on board with, but rarely see written as three dimensional (*koff*JOSS*koff*) So this is Inara/Jayne. Seriously. A little dark, perfectly in character, and fascinating. NC-17, kink and multiple partners, I suppose. Really something. Benificence.

The other is an extraordinary piece of multimedia from [livejournal.com profile] zoetrope. It's AU SGA, period John/Rodney, in which Rodney is designing WWII bombers in England and John is a test pilot. Love and danger ensues, all in the frame work of letters sent years later from Jeannie's family trying to finally find Rodney. It's beautiful like an old movie. The story really could have stood alone; the images (some from period movies that JF and DH have done, marvelously), embellishments, video and sound are really, really good gravy. Missed the Saturday Dance. You don't have to be a John/Rodney or SGA fan to appreciate this one. Slash, but fairly worksafe.

Gowan. I know they aren't SG-1; you should check them out anyway.

*big lingering hugs back*

It was so cute. So Cute, I say, when raqs met me at the airport and used you as an excuse to snuggle. "Jen said I have to give you a hug. And get one back. And this one is for me." Hee! I felt loved. jenlev = hugs4eva

The Saturday Dance fic. Marvelous. Amazing. Extraordinary. The effort put in for the multimedia. Astounding. It is pure genius. My only complaint is that it felt like overall it was too quick. Maybe just too short. Although, the way it was done, I could totally envision it as a romantic war movie. The bar has definitely been raised.

They're going to need a new category in the Fan Awards next year for this one...

I found myself still thinking about it hours after I finished it...

Lingering symptoms, of course, but the bonus of being unemployed is the luxury of sleeping 12 hours a night if it's needed. And the point is that I feel better, and am no longer carrying tissue boxes from room to room (though I still know where they are in each room.)

Afrika Man wants to come visit me now, though I'll believe it when I see it.

hmmm, and also hmmm. i well believe he wants to come visit you. i dunno if he will, or if he SHOULD. without meeting him or knowing a lot more about him i simply cannot tell if he is, as SK would say, good enough for you.

however, his wanting to visit you speaks to his not being dumb. :-)

mostly, i am glad about your cold. mine is juuuuuuuust fading away. (and i always know where the tissues are. allergies, you know.

Hmmm is right.

There are many complications once you extend everything past the 'you and I, this time, no hard questions' boundaries. Including his children, with their mothers in South Africa, and my parents, with their associated health troubles on the West Coast of the US. There is not much middle ground to be had, there, and I'm thinking that extending the liason is just going to lead to pining. Or something equally not fun. Where if we simply stay in touch, it could be a warm and quirky friendship.

On the other hand, sex-starved here. Not going to throw him out of bed.

So, hmmm. I think I shall simply watch how it plays out, and accept the wanting to be with me as the compliment that it is.

He's figured out how to chat online, though, so my rather noble goal of not responding to emails for 24 hours has been thwarted. I can see a change in the tone of the writing from both of us, though. Less loss and confusion, more just pleasure that the other person is this available. Talking about music and life instead of just the time spent together.

Hmmm.

*delicate cough*

You love me, you really love me!!!

Thank you for the rec. This fic sat around in my notebook and my head for AGES and took a lot of effort and TWO betas before emerging on the scene. I am SO glad that it worked out better than expected and that you liked it.

*squishes you*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-11-05 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I really, really do. *hands you a statuette*

And I left meeting you for brunch only to see your double on the plane to Dakkar, did I tell you that?

Funny how some writing you struggle with and some just flows. Hard to say which is the more rewarding when finished.

Yay for everything being better!

I read Missed the Saturday Dance and thought it was wonderful! Since I'm kinda at work in the lab I think I'll read Benificence when I get to my room.. :D

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-11-06 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Benificence is Inara POV, so you know she could be talking about the most carnal acts ever and it would still sound elegant, but if you're prone to blushing that might give it away.

Missed the Saturday Dance is just something else, isn't it?
