End of year fanfic meme

I ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] ltlj and I feel it's my self pimping Christmas gift to myself:

My Year In Fanfic:

The Principle of Exclusion. Threesome and then some fic. Sam on sabbatical in Atlantis. In beta (actually I'm working with brilliant beta comments). Smoootches to [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong. This weekend, I promise. Adult, or something. I don't know which rating system to use anymore.

Like No One Is Watching. Gen, teen, when Daniel goes down. And the third fic in a row to use the word 'One' in the title. What up with that?

One Day I'll Fly Away and Vanish. Jack/Daniel, season 9, adult.

One Half of the Equation. Sam/Daniel, season 9, teen.

Backup, Jack/Daniel in separate holding cells, passing notes, teen.

ADMTDI. Jack/Daniel, Season 9, adult. Challenge response phase.

Phone Tag, Jack/Daniel teen, season 9. Jack being mother hen-y and some general silliness. Also a challenge response.

Into the Breach, Teal'c fic, my beautiful lonely Teal'c. Rated, dunno, teen? Last of the challenges.

Slow, Jack/Daniel nearly season 9, nearly first time fic, definitely adult.

Laced With It's Presence, Jack/Daniel separated. Season 6, rated teen.

My favorite story of the year

I am ridiculously proud of Like No One Is Watching because it was a number of new things all in one fic, using all four characters equally, not allowing them to flirt with each other, setting in season 4 when there was some tension, writing to a prompt, disjointed chronology. Also possibly the most effective beta experience ever.

My best story of the year

Maybe One Day I'll Fly Away and Vanish, if only because I felt like I did what I wanted to with Jack and Daniel, was inordinately pleased with myself.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion

Ah, Laced With It's Presence. It's not your average fic (Alien first person POV, anyone?), it's hard to sell (Jack and Daniel in season 6 = a recipe for separation), it can be a confusing read since there are no names... but gracious, I do love the lyricism and I feel like it's the one fic that is totally unique. It's also the only episode based fic I've done, but that's neither here nor there.

Most fun story

Alien's Didn't Make Them Do It. There really isn't a point except to let Daniel mess with Jack's protective insticts and get them rolling around on the ground. With evil grins. The challenge response thing had me fascinated for a while there.

Most sexy story

Slow. It's all sex, that entire story is bracketed by sex.

Story with the single sexiest moment

Might have to go with the obvious Slow. Only because I haven't posted Exclusion Principal yet. It has potential.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story

I don't think I feel that way about any of my fics, not really.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters

One Half of the Equation. First time I saw Sam as an extremely lonely person trying like hell to make herself live the way everyone else expects her to and failing spectacularly at it.

Hardest story to write

Like No One is Watching. Disjointed chronology. Oy. Many many beta editing rounds. I love my betas.

Biggest Disappointment

Well, there are a few that I think are sort of boring, and the challenge responses weren't that ambitious, but I am not really disappointed in any of them. I may have to pick the first fic I wrote that will never see the light of day. Was way too ambitious with that and succeeded on no particular point.

Biggest Surprise

One Half of the Equation. As a fairly committed J/D slasher, that was a surprise. Also the reaction to it, which introduced me to some really extraordinary people in the Sam/Daniel corner of the fandom.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story

The Sam fics are telling about me; specifically the workaholism, the arrogance, the trying too hard to please, the trying to fit in with the holding people at a distance, the perfectionism and fear of failure, yeah. These are things I fear could be my own flaws. But I'm not really up for crazy threesomes in another galaxy in an exploratory way, so Sam does the experiment for me. If it fixes her, then I'm not above trying it myself if I need the help. Erm.

I haven't read all of your fics yet, Minx.. *hangs head in shame*

I resolve to read them all this weekend. Happy New Year, my dear. {{hugs}}

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-01 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
A resolution I can actually support! Hee. You don't have to fangrrl me to be a pal, though, you know. Not required.

Happy New Year!

[identity profile] trika.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey....I only get fangrrl-y when a fic really moves me. And I believe in what Mum told me, "If you can't say something nice, yada, yada ....". Don't get me wrong, not saying anything doesn't mean that I didn't like it either. *rereads sentence* Yeah, that's what I said. *g*

I guess what I mean is... I want to read your stuff, but you always rec everyone else's great stuff, that I forget to read yours. I promise I'll only get fangrrl-y if I feel it warrants it. OK? I never lie to a doctor.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-02 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, well, I don't know that the things I rec aren't better pieces. Sometimes, though, I want to read something and I can't find that anyone else has bothered to write it down. This makes my fic the best of that kind around as a result.

And I'll take qualified praise, don't think I won't! Like for example, when Wraith said "Well, it's okay, for het." Hee!

But it's very good policy to not lie to your doctors. And did I tell you that I'm finishing school the first week in March? Then I'll be a REAL doctor! Woo!

*glee* A whole page of minxy fics... :)

Now... to make sure every other loved writer on my flist does this... bwahahahaa...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-01 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Tee hee! It feels so self indulgent to pimp one's own fic. That's all you'll have to overcome to get your flist to talk about their own work. No problem! *glee*

Hee! Flattery. It's so nice... hee! *giggles*

I'm loving this meme because it means I can catch up on fic from before I was in the fandom; looking forward to a huge read-fest when the kids are back at school and our houseguests have left (not that I want either of those to happen as I'm enjoying the house full of happy people).

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-01 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It took me a while to realize that LJ usually doesn't show my format to my friends when they come to visit, so while I have a list of links to the side, most people don't see 'em.

So, I erm, I pimped my own work. It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it.

Are you going to talk about yours? I'd like to have a little road map to your fics.

[identity profile] janedavitt.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I did a count up of them this year (90) but I'm not sure I have favourites and such... I love them all best when I'm doing them :-) Maybe... I'm so far behind on Posts I Want To Do!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-01 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Dayum. 90???

90?????

Dayum. Are you counting drabbles?

Dayum.

[identity profile] janedavitt.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll quote from my post ::g::

In 2005, I've written 90 fics (I'm not counting the published/to be published ones).

1 Buffy/Dr Who crossover
1 Dr Who
1 Supernatural
2 Original
2 Firefly
8 SGA
34 SG-1
41 Buffy

And a couple that haven't seen the light of day but we won't talk about them, oh, no.

So a productive year I guess. ::checks 2004:: Ah. 150 fics. ::feels less productive::

Well, I did co-write a novel in May.

A fair few will have been drabbles; love doing them, but I count them as one; a lot of the fics were epics so it balances out!

[identity profile] janedavitt.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I checked, and 22 of the 42 SG-1/SGA fics were drabbles; told you I liked them ;-)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-02 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, I'm guessing it'll all balance, with the epics and the Not To Be Counted published works.

*is impressed*

[identity profile] janedavitt.livejournal.com 2006-01-02 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I sometimes wish I could be one of those people who produce one single, perfect fic every two years and all of LJ heaves an enraptured sigh of bliss but it's just not me ::g:: I dream 'em up, slap 'em out, fast and sloppy.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-02 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I love you just the way you are! Who else asks me for wacky prompts? Don't ever chaaaaange! They aren't sloppy, either. Stop that. You are fabulous and sparkly. *pets you*

[identity profile] janedavitt.livejournal.com 2006-01-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
:;basks:: You're making me feel all glowy in a non-Ascended way ::g:: Thank you very much -- but they do need more betaing than they get, poor fics :;pets them and you::

[identity profile] jenlev.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
happy new year! and i'm running in circles trying to catch up with all the fic hereabouts in LJ-land. it's such a great collection everywhere, i think i need some vacation reading days. *g*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_minxy_/ 2006-01-01 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
OMGosh, with the Yuletide with the ficathons with the gift fics with the fic memes....

So. Much. Goodness. *thud*

[identity profile] jenlev.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
