End of year fanfic meme
I ganked this from
ltlj and I feel it's my self pimping Christmas gift to myself:
My Year In Fanfic:
The Principle of Exclusion. Threesome and then some fic. Sam on sabbatical in Atlantis. In beta (actually I'm working with brilliant beta comments). Smoootches to
rydra_wong. This weekend, I promise. Adult, or something. I don't know which rating system to use anymore.
Like No One Is Watching. Gen, teen, when Daniel goes down. And the third fic in a row to use the word 'One' in the title. What up with that?
One Day I'll Fly Away and Vanish. Jack/Daniel, season 9, adult.
One Half of the Equation. Sam/Daniel, season 9, teen.
Backup, Jack/Daniel in separate holding cells, passing notes, teen.
ADMTDI. Jack/Daniel, Season 9, adult. Challenge response phase.
Phone Tag, Jack/Daniel teen, season 9. Jack being mother hen-y and some general silliness. Also a challenge response.
Into the Breach, Teal'c fic, my beautiful lonely Teal'c. Rated, dunno, teen? Last of the challenges.
Slow, Jack/Daniel nearly season 9, nearly first time fic, definitely adult.
Laced With It's Presence, Jack/Daniel separated. Season 6, rated teen.
My favorite story of the year
I am ridiculously proud of Like No One Is Watching because it was a number of new things all in one fic, using all four characters equally, not allowing them to flirt with each other, setting in season 4 when there was some tension, writing to a prompt, disjointed chronology. Also possibly the most effective beta experience ever.
My best story of the year
Maybe One Day I'll Fly Away and Vanish, if only because I felt like I did what I wanted to with Jack and Daniel, was inordinately pleased with myself.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion
Ah, Laced With It's Presence. It's not your average fic (Alien first person POV, anyone?), it's hard to sell (Jack and Daniel in season 6 = a recipe for separation), it can be a confusing read since there are no names... but gracious, I do love the lyricism and I feel like it's the one fic that is totally unique. It's also the only episode based fic I've done, but that's neither here nor there.
Most fun story
Alien's Didn't Make Them Do It. There really isn't a point except to let Daniel mess with Jack's protective insticts and get them rolling around on the ground. With evil grins. The challenge response thing had me fascinated for a while there.
Most sexy story
Slow. It's all sex, that entire story is bracketed by sex.
Story with the single sexiest moment
Might have to go with the obvious Slow. Only because I haven't posted Exclusion Principal yet. It has potential.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
I don't think I feel that way about any of my fics, not really.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters
One Half of the Equation. First time I saw Sam as an extremely lonely person trying like hell to make herself live the way everyone else expects her to and failing spectacularly at it.
Hardest story to write
Like No One is Watching. Disjointed chronology. Oy. Many many beta editing rounds. I love my betas.
Biggest Disappointment
Well, there are a few that I think are sort of boring, and the challenge responses weren't that ambitious, but I am not really disappointed in any of them. I may have to pick the first fic I wrote that will never see the light of day. Was way too ambitious with that and succeeded on no particular point.
Biggest Surprise
One Half of the Equation. As a fairly committed J/D slasher, that was a surprise. Also the reaction to it, which introduced me to some really extraordinary people in the Sam/Daniel corner of the fandom.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story
The Sam fics are telling about me; specifically the workaholism, the arrogance, the trying too hard to please, the trying to fit in with the holding people at a distance, the perfectionism and fear of failure, yeah. These are things I fear could be my own flaws. But I'm not really up for crazy threesomes in another galaxy in an exploratory way, so Sam does the experiment for me. If it fixes her, then I'm not above trying it myself if I need the help. Erm.
