email hack

This is a friendly PSA to do two things:

1) ignore any spam that came from my fannish email account (it's a yahoo account) and

2) consider changing your password on your email account. I was deleting the returned messages from the spam event and discovered the original email that came to me with probably the hack embedded, also from a fan. The advertizing hacks are after us! SAVE YOURSELVES!


Sorry about that spamnation, too. It's not always better with spam.

Yeah, I got something from "you" recently. There's a bunch of this going on. First I was getting mail from "my brother", then "his family", then "THINGers". Grrr.

Do they all appear to be yahoo accounts? This may be a yahoo embedded weakness.

The family has hotmail, but the THINGers are yahoo, of course. Ooh, I should check my rarely-used yahoo account to see if there's been any strange goings-on...

ETA: Nope, my yahoo and hotmail accounts look normal.

Yes, I got an e-mail with an obviously dodgy link from you. Do you know if it's okay as long as you don't click on the link?

It is not--I never even opened the original spam from Jenn, yet was infected, alas. May I suggest two-factor authentication? Also it does seem as though this is a yahoo-account specific spam, so you may be fine as long as you don't click through. My gmail account (the yahoo is for fannish things) was not infected, despite getting a message.
