It's true, Teal'c has known strong women. And you make an interesting point about protection and places and such. Of course, then Teal'c meets Sam and has to re-figure all of it out (I got the impression Ishta's group was the first time Teal'c's seen female Jaffa fight).

Really, given how much time the male Jaffa spend off fighting and campaigning and, well, dying - the women have to be strong and independent and smart, because they must spend a lot of time raising families and surviving on their own.
