Fly-by complaining

You know, one of the lingering problems with my computer crash this spring is that my graduate advisor, for all his faults (and there were many), was generous with computer programs. My current advisor is fairly stingy, and as a result I've just discovered that I DO NOT HAVE PHOTOSHOP ANYMORE.

And free trials even are not available from Adobe until the first. I have a presentation on *Thursday*.

...how am I going to survive putting together presentations and papers on the crappy, dirty, always cluttered lab computer?

help. crap.

Use GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/). It's free, not nearly as resource intensive, and just as good as Photoshop. Might be a slight learning curve, but imho worth it.

Yeah, someone else introduced me to Gimp, and I'm not too photoshop savvy. I love it.

There is always Photoshop Express (https://www.photoshop.com/express/landing.html). I haven't used it myself, though, so I can't say how good it is.

If none of the other suggestions work out, you could try checking out the Macromedia website and getting a free trial of Fireworks, which is basically the same thing. :)

If you were my University, we have the full Adobe CS3 suite in all our really awesome, constantly refreshed labs. Sorry about your lab. :-(

thank you!

if you want to e-mail me (kudra2324@gmail.com), i may have a copy with which i could hook you up. so far as i know, it'll work so long as you are not running it on the same network at the same time as someone else with the same copy, and the chances of that are very, very small.

GIMP. Chances are you'll go back to photoshop if you ever have a chance, but if you can get over the learning curve (GIMP has something of a learning curve already, and I think it's worse if you're accustomed to photoshop), you'll probably be more than happy.

I do think there are certain things Photoshop does better, but also a few things GIMP has going for it.
